How to Prepare for Makeup Day

MAKEUP DAY

All schools that have at least 100 students are offered a makeup day. For schools under 100, there are fees starting at  $500 for up to 2 hours. If you do not have a makeup day listed on your contract and would like one, please reach out to your Account Manager to set one up.

WHAT ABOUT RETAKES?

We totally get that sometimes the first shot does not capture the student’s best self. Makeup day gives them a second chance to get a photo that is awesome. Photos from both Picture Day and Makeup Day will be available in the gallery so families can decide which one they like better.

PREPARING FOR MAKEUP DAY

All Picture Day contacts will receive an email request to schedule a prep call with your Account Manager to review the details. To get started, here are the basics for preparing:

  • Create a sign-up form. Enter the link to your form in the Update Makeup Day Sign-up Link field in the portal. We need to have this link prior to announcing pictures taken on picture day. We put the link on the Picture Day Page for families.
  • Share Makeup Day Sign-up link with families so they can sign up.
  • Review the Subjects Without Photographs list in the portal to make sure all those students have an opportunity to use the sign-up form.
  • Confirm that a space will be ready for makeup day. Usually this is a much smaller space than Picture Day since we only need one photo set.
  • Close the sign-up form 3 days prior to makeup day. When you have the total number of students to be photographed, finalize the schedule with your Account Manager.

SCHEDULING MAKEUP DAY

Makeup Day involves one SGP photographer for a maximum of three hours, and most sessions can be completed in less time, depending on the number of sign ups.

Here are some tips:

  • Each student takes about 1.5 minutes to get a portrait. Please schedule so they come to set consecutively with minimal gaps.
  • Have volunteers ready to mobilize students to set. We rely on staff and volunteers to bring students to set to ensure a smooth and continuous flow.
  • Bring students to set in small groups of no more than 10 at a time to avoid long waiting periods and high noise levels.
  • Use the sign-up sheet as your guide, but if a few last minute students need a makeup day photo (and have not signed up) please bring them to set.
  • Plan to have one volunteer remain at the portrait set to assist students as needed.
  • Confirm with the photographer when all students needing pictures have been photographed.
